What it is like
A scrambling shrub. It can grow 5-10 m tall. The young branches have rusty hairs. There are spines that occur singly or in pairs. The leaves are 3-9 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. The flowering shoots are in the axils of leaves. The flowers are 4-5 mm across.
The bark is used in medicine.

It is a temperate plant. It grows in seasonally dry areas.
