What it is like

A tree. It grows 15 m tall. The leaves are lighter green underneath. They are oblong and 8-15 cm long by 3-7 cm wide. There are 8-15 flowers in a group in the axils of leaves or where leaves have fallen. The fruit is oval and shiny. It is 2 cm long by 1 cm wide and it is rounded at both ends. There is one seed about 1 cm long.

There are about 360 Elaeocarpus species mostly in the tropics.


Where it is found

It is grown in Yunnan in China between 1300-1600 m above sea level. It grows in broadleaved, subtropical evergreen forest.
