What it is like
A shrub or tree. It grows 3-5 m high. The young branches have rusty coloured bark. The leaves are oval and slightly pointed. They are 5-10 cm long and 2-4 cm wide. The flowers are white and in clusters in the axils of leaves. They are on older stems. The fruit are green then red berries that turn black.
There are about 40 Coffea species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in dry deciduous forest. It is often along rivers and in coastal thickets. It grows on sandy soil. It grows between 10-350 m above sea level.
