What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 2-7 m tall. The trunk is 6-16 cm across. It loses its leaves during the year, The small branches are grey-brown. The leaves are narrowly oval and 7-19 cm long by 3-5 cm wide. The flowers are red and 3 cm across. The fruit are fleshy and 10-12 mm long by 6-7 mm wide. They are slightly curved.

It is a tropical plant. It occurs from sea level to 1,200 m above sea level.
