What it is like
A tree. It grows 40 m tall. The trunk can be 1 m across. The bark is red-orange and peels off in plates. The leaves are narrowly oval and the edges can be slightly wavy and sometime with teeth. The flowers are in groups of 4-7. These are in groups 40 cm long. The flowers are yellow with reddish stamens. They are 10 cm across. The fruit is a round capsule which splits open in a star shape when ripe. The seeds are brown and have a fleshy layer or aril around the lower section.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in primary forests and along streams. It grows up to 500 m above sea level.
