What it is like
A tree. It grows about 6 m high. The leaves have stalks. They are alternate. They are oval and have teeth along the edge. They are leathery and densely woolly underneath. The male flower spike is long and slender and droops. It is yellow. The female fruit is an acorn. It is 1.5 cm long. It is about one half enclosed in the cup.
Where it is found
A subtropical plant. In Nepal it grows from 1000-2600 m altitude. It can tolerate some shade. It can tolerate some frost.
