What it is like
A ground orchid. It grows to 45 cm tall. The leaves at the base are sword shaped and pointed. The leaves on the stem are more narrow and more pointed. The flower spikes have 3-12 flowers. The petals and sepals can be pink or purple. The lip is 8-12 mm long with 3 lobes.
There are about 140 Ophrys species.
Where it is found
It grows in meadows and open woodland.
