What it is like

A tree that loses its leaves during the year. It grows 30 m high. The leaves are oblong and 8-21 cm long by 5-9 cm wide. They have a grey covering underneath. The fruit are in a cup. This is 1.5 cm across and has oval scales. The nuts are oval and 2 cm long by 1.4 cm wide.

It grows in broad-leaved forests at altitudes between 500-2,100 m.
