What it is like
A herb that keeps growing from year to year. It has a deep taproot. The leaves at the base form a ring. They are simple and without hairs. The leaves are oval to oval or sword shaped. They are rounded teeth along the edge. The leaves are 2-12 cm long and dark green and leathery. It has a single flowering stem with a cylinder shaped cluster of flowers. The flowering stem is 10-15 cm long. The leaves on the stem do not have leaf stalks. The flowers are light blue. They have a pleasant smell.

It is a cold temperate plant. It grows in moist places and near ponds.
