What it is like
A shrubby climber. It has dense soft silky hairs. There are a few prickles. The spines are straight or curved. The leaves are simple and oval. They are 5-10 cm long by 4-11 cm wide. There are 3 or 5 lobes. The end lobe is the largest. The flowers are white and 8-10 mm across. They are in groups on short stalks in the axils of leaves. The fruit is almost round and 2 cm across. It is purple-red and turns black. It is sweet-sour.
Where it is found
It is a subtropical plant. It grows in moist places near streams between 300-1,500 m above sea level. It is native to Guangdong in China. In Yunnan.
