What it is like
It is an erect shrub. It grows 1-3 m high. The leaves are oval and wedge shaped at the base. They are 2-9 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. They have a few hairs near the midrib underneath. The flowers are cream or yellow. They occur singly. The plants flower, set seeds, then die. The fruit are orange or red and round. They are 8-12 mm long. They have 1 or 2 seeds.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows on dry sands. In Kenya it grows from sea level to 50 m above sea level. It grows in dunes and sands. It can grow in arid places.
