What it is like
A small tree. It grows up to 8 m high. The stem can be 10-15 cm across. The leaves are opposite. The blade is sword shaped and 10-15 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. It tapers to a tip. The crushed leaves smell strongly of cloves. The flowers are in 2 or more rings or groups. The flower stalk is 1 cm long. The male and female flowers are separate. The fruit is a 5 celled berry. It is round and 5-7 mm across.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in forest at 200-1200 m altitude.
