What it is like
A tree. It grows to 30 m high. The trunk is often short and crooked. It has stilt roots. The leaves are elongated and 20-50 cm long by 3-15 cm wide. They narrow towards the base. The fruit is fleshy and yellow. They are 2-3 cm long and wide.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows along streams and in coastal forests in West Africa. It is sometimes considered a freshwater mangrove.
