What it is like
A tree. It grows 30 m tall. The trunk can be 1.2 m across. The leaves are 8-15 cm long by 5-8 cm wide. The flowers are produced just below the leaves. The flowering shoots are 10-20 cm long. They are hairy. The fruit are oblong follicles. They are 4-9 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. They are bright red on the outside. Inside they are pale yellow. There are 6 or 7 seeds in each section. The seeds are 11-16 mm long by 7-11 mm wide.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows from sea level to 100 m above sea level.
