What it is like

A ginger family herb. The rhizomes are irregular and branched. They are yellowish white inside. The false stems are 0.8-1.5 cm high. The leaf stalk is 0.5-1.5 cm long. The leaf blade is sword shaped and 15 cm long by 3.5-8.5 cm wide. The base is wedge shaped. It tapers to the tip. The flower arises from the rhizome. It is oval and 5-7 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. There are 12-20 flowers. The stalk is 2-6 cm long. The bracts are purple brown. They are broadly oval and 3.5-5.5 cm long by 1-5 cm wide. It tapers to the tip. The flowers are yellowish white.

It is a subtropical plant. It grows in forests at about 900 m in C Sichuan in China.
