What it is like
A shrub. It grows 1.6 m high. The bark on the annual shoots is pale yellowish grey. It is dark on older shoots. The leaves are narrowly sword shaped. They are 3 cm long by 0.9 cm wide. The flowers are pink. There are 4-6 in a cluster on spurs. The fruit is fleshy with a stone inside. It is dark red and 7-9 mm across. The fruit are edible.
Where it is found
In Kazakhstan it grows on stony ground between 800-1,000 m altitude.
