What it is like

A grass. It is robust and strongly tillering. It keeps growing from year to year. It grows 2.5-5 m tall. The leaves are narrow and taper to the tip.

There are about 19 Themeda species.

Where it is found

A tropical plant. In Java it grows from the lowlands to 1,500 m above sea level.
