What it is like
A medium sized evergreen tree. It is often 15-20 m tall. The trunk can be 25-30 cm across. The bark is grey or black and flaky. The flowers are yellow and have a nice smell. The fruit is tapered at the tip. It is 2.5-4 cm long and 1.2-2.5 cm across. The fruit are yellow when ripe.
There are about 27 Mammea species. They grow in the tropics. Also put in the family Clusiaceae.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It is found in monsoon tropical forests. It grows on hills from 500 m altitude. It grows best in areas with a distinct wet and dry season. It grows in deep, wet, fertile and well drained soils.
