What it is like

A tree. It grows 55 m tall. The trunk is straight and is 45-80 cm across. The first branches may be 18-20 m above the ground. It can have buttresses up to 1 m tall. The leaves are clustered at the ends of branches. The leaves are simple and arranged in spirals. The leaves are 20-26 cm long by 6-9 cm wide. The flowering shoots are in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 6-8 cm long. There is one seed 2-3 cm long. It has wings.

Where it is found

It is a tropical plant. It is endemic to the Bismarck Archipelago in Papua New Guinea. It occurs in Morobe Province, New Britain, New Ireland and Manus. It grows in dense lowland forests.
