What it is like
A ginger family herb. It is robust and keeps growing from year to year. It grows 2.5 m tall. There are stout branched underground stems or rhizomes. The leaves are sword shaped and 50-68 cm long by 12-15 cm wide. The fruiting heads are 8 cm across. They are in dense clusters. The fruit are like berries and 2 cm across. The seeds are 6 mm long. They are yellow. The aril or layer around the seed is white.
There are about 150 Amomum species. They are mostly tropical. An unresolved name in The Plant List.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in primary forest up to 1400 m altitude.
