What it is like

An evergreen tree. It grows 10-13 m high. The small branches have a grey covering. The leaves are narrowly oval or sword shaped. They are 10-20 cm long by 4-8 cm wide. They are rough and the base is wedge shaped. The leaf stalk is hairy and 1-2 cm long. The flowers have both sexes. They are in small groups in the axils of leaves. The fruit are oval and 7 mm long.

There are about 250 Cinnamomum species.

A tropical plant. It grows near the edges of forests.
