What it is like
A tree. It grows 10-15 m tall. The trunk can be 20 cm across. There are slight buttresses. The bark is grey. The leaves taper abruptly to a tip. The base is rounded. There are red or white hairs underneath. The flowers are in groups in the axils of leaves and near the ends of branches. The flowers are yellowish-white or red with a dark red centre. The fruit is a star shaped pod with 2-5 follicles. They are oblong and red and split open. The seeds are black and narrowly oval.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows on the edges of forests and in open forests between 100-1,050 m above sea level.
