What it is like
A tree. It grows 7 m tall. The leaves are oblong and 15 cm long. The male and female flowers are separate. The male flowers are in groups at the ends of the shoots and the female flowers occur singly. They are pale green and 2 cm across. The fruit are bright red and 8 cm across.
There are about 300 Garcinia species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows between 100-400 m above sea level.
