What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows 6-10 m tall. Young branches have brown hairs. The leaves are narrowly oval and 7-15 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. The groups of flowers have yellowish-brown hairs. The flowers have a nice smell. The fruit are fleshy and oval. They are 8-11 mm long by 4-10 mm wide.
There are over 250 Symplocos species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in dense and secondary forests. In southern China it grows between 100-1,600 m above sea level. In Sichuan and Yunnan.
