What it is like
A shrub. It grows 3 m tall. The branches curve upwards. The leaves are needle-like and ribbed. They are hairy. The male flower spikes are brown and 1-4 cm long at the ends of branches. The female flowers are in the axils and are red. The cone are oval and 10-18 mm long. The fruit is a samara 4-5 mm long. It is dark brown or black.

A temperate plant. It grows in heath or swampy woodland. Arboretum Tasmania.
