What it is like
A deciduous compact shrub. It grows 2.5-3 m high and spreading to 2.5-3.7 m wide. It produces hundreds of small scented flowers. The flower buds are grey-green. The flowers are limp stars. They are 10 cm across. They are fragrant.
There are 125 Magnolia species.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It is frost hardy. It grows naturally on gently sloping land and in hills and valleys. It does best in a sunny site with slight water flow. It suits hardiness zones 5-9. Arboretum Tasmania.
