What it is like
A herb. It grows 30-120 cm tall. It keeps growing from year to year. It has a taproot and leaves in a ring. These are narrowly oval and 6-15 cm long by 2-4 cm wide.
There are about 50 Hypochaeris species.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows in mountain slopes above 1,000 m above sea level in western China.
