What it is like

A grass. It has a short underground stem or rhizome and shoots grow from this. The stems can be 2 m tall. They are 3-6 mm thick at the base. The leaves are 45 cm long by 4-7 mm wide. The flowering shoot is 35-75 cm long. The spikelets are 1.6-2.4 mm long. They are dark green.

It is a tropical plant. It grows in woodland near rivers.
