What it is like

A herb. It grows 50-120 cm tall. The root is fattened and cone shaped. The stem is hairy towards the base. The lwoer leaves fall off and the leaves on the stem have leaf stalks. These are 1-7 cm long. The leaf segments at the end are oval and 5-10 mm long by 3-5 mm wide and with 3 lobes or teeth.

There is only one Sphallerocarpus species.


Where it is found

It is a temperate plant. It grows on mountain slopes and waste places between 500-2,800 m above sea level in north China.
