What it is like

A shrub that lies along the ground. It loses its leaves during the year. The young branches are hairy. The leaves are alternate and narrowly oval. They are 7-10 cm long by 5-11 cm wide. There are fine teeth. Male and female flowers are on separate plants. The flowers are yellowish-green. There are 3-9 in the axils of leaves. They are small round capsules 5-10 mm across.


Where it is found

It is a tropical plant. It grows in mountain forests between 300-2,500 m above sea level.
