What it is like
A shrub or woody vine. It grows 10 m long. The stems have curved prickles. The leaves are simple and 8-20 cm long by 2-15 cm wide. The flowering shoots are 3-7 cm long. The fruit are berries 1.5-2.5 cm across. They are green and turn orange to red when ripe. There are 30-60 seeds on each fruit.

It is a tropical plant. It grows between 200-2,500 m above sea level.
