What it is like

A cactus. It is a shrubby plant. It is low and dense with a few branches. It grows 1-2 m high. The stem segments are oblong and light green. They are 15-30 cm long. There are 1-3 spines in the upper spine buds. The flowers are yellow and 6-7 cm across. The fruit are oval and 5-7 cm long.

There are about 250 Opuntia species.
