What it is like

A spreading shrub. It grows 3 m high and spreads 4.5 m wide. It loses its leaves during the year. The young growth is downy. The leaves are large and have prominent veins. They are oblong to oval and glossy. they are dark green above and paler underneath. The flowers are white or cream and in panicles. The fruit are red when young and become black when ripe.

There are about 150 Viburnum species. Also put in the family Caprifoliaceae.
