What it is like
A robust herb. It has thickened underground stems or rhizomes. It has a short 2.5-5 cm long stem. The leaves are simple and broadly sword shaped. The leaf stalk is 15-23 cm long. It forms a sheath at the base. The leaf blade is 15-28 cm long and 2.5-7.5 cm wide. The flowering stalk is 13 cm long. The fruit is a small round berry.

A tropical plant. It occurs in lowland rainforest.
