What it is like

A tree. The trunk is fairly straight. The crown is light and rounded. It grows 8-30 m high. The trunk is about 50 cm across. The branches are bent and crooked. The bark is thick and scaly. It is rough and brownish grey. The leaves are thin and papery. The leaves are simple and arranged alternately. The leaves are hairy underneath. The flowers are in clusters near the ends of the small branches. The flowers are covered with brown hairs. The fruit are brown and spotted with grey. They are about 8 cm long. They hard outer layer of the fruit softens as they ripen.

There are about 50 Parinari species. They grow in the tropics. As insalarum in The Plant List.

A tropical plant. It grows from sea level to 800 m above sea level.
