What it is like
An upright shrub. It grows 2-4 m high. The branches are reddish-brown. It has flattened prickles. The leaves have leaflets along the stalk. There are 9-17 small leaflets. These are 1-3 cm long and have teeth along the edge. The flowers are white and 3-4 cm across. The fruit are pear shaped hips that are 8-15 mm long and bright red. They are on a thickened yellow stalk.
There are about 150 Rosa species and many cultivated varieties.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It is native to western China. It grows between 700-4,000 m above sea level. It grows in Yunnan. In Sichuan. Arboretum Tasmania.
