What it is like
A shrub or small tree. It grows up to 6 m high. The small branches have four angles. They are hairy when young. The leaves can be long or broad. They can be 15-20 mm long by 10-15 mm wide. They are thick and leathery. The edges are rolled and thickened. The flowers are 6 mm across. They are on long stalks 15 mm long. The berries develop on these stalks.
There is only one Neomyrtus species. It is endemic to New Zealand.
Where it is found
It occurs throughout New Zealand from sea level to 1050 m altitude.
