What it is like
A tree. It grows 25 m tall. The trunk can be 45 cm across. The leaves are alternate and simple. The often have slightly heart shaped base. The upper and lower surfaces are different colours. The flowers are 3 mm across. They are green to yellow. They are in dense bundles in the axils of leaves. The fruit are about 8 mm long. They are red to purple. They are a capsule with red seeds.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows in open sites in forests. It can grow up to 2,000 m above sea level. In Yunnan.
