What it is like

A ginger family herb. It grows 1-1.6 m high. The leaves are dark green above and dull red underneath. The blades are sword shaped and 20-30 cm long by 8-10 cm wide. They taper to the tip. The flowers are bright red.


Where it is found

It is a subtropical plant. In the Himalayas it grows between 1,000-1600 m altitude. It suits hardiness zones 9b-12. In Cairns Botanical Gardens.
