What it is like

A small tree. It grows 2.4-3.5 m high. It spreads 2.4 m wide. The leaves are small and oval. They have a puckered surface. The leaves are dark green in the shade and bronze or purple in sun. The flowers are small and fluffy. They are cream. The fruit are dark red berries.

There are 2 Lophomyrtus species. They grow in New Zealand.


Where it is found

It is a warm temperate plant. In New Zealand it grows in coastal and lowland forest from sea level to 600 m altitude in the North Island. It suits hardiness zones 9-10. Arboretum Tasmania.
