What it is like
A small shrub. It grows 2 m tall. The leaves are sword shape and heart shaped or rounded at the base. The upper leaves are often pressed close to the stem. Usually there is one flower.

It is a subtropical plant. In South Africa it grows from sea level to 600 m above sea level.
