What it is like
A shrub. It grows 3 m high. The stems have thorns 4 mm long. The leaves are compound. They are 3-8 cm long and have thorns underneath. There are 3-9 leaflets and these are 4-10 cm long by 2-5 cm wide. The flowers occur in groups of up to 30. They are white and 7-12 mm long. The fruit is an aggregate berry. It can be pink, orange or red.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in the rainforest and wet forest. In tropical Queensland it grows from sea level to 1200 m altitude. In Papua New Guinea is has been recorded in Bougainville.
