What it is like
Plants are green. It forms clumps. The rhizomes or underground stems are 0.3-1 cm thick. The leaf stalk is 6-30 cm long. The leaf blade is oval and 4-19 cm long by 4-17 cm wide. There are 7-11 pairs of veins. There are 10-30 flowers in a cluster. The flowers are deep purple. The fruit is a capsule 2.5-4.5 cm long by 6-7 mm wide. It is 3 angled.
There are 70 Hosta species.
Where it is found
It is a temperate plant. It grows in forests, grassy slopes and hillsides between 500-2400 m altitude in S China. It suits hardiness zones 6-10. In Sichuan.
