What it is like
A ginger family herb that keeps growing from year to year. It grows 3 m tall. It has a rhizome that grows above ground. It has stilt roots. It can be 30-200 cm long. It can climb trees. The leaves are sword shaped and 44-75 cm long by 7-14 cm wide. The fruit is like a flattened berry. It is white.
There are about 60 Hornstedtia species. They occur in tropical Asia.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in forests between 700-1,500 m above sea level.
