What it is like
A medium sized shrub. It grows 3-8 m high and spreads 1.5-4 m wide. It has woody tubers under the ground. There can be one or more trunks. The bark is rough at the base. The leaves are 3-14 cm long by 0.4-3.5 cm wide. They are narrowly oval. They are alternate and green. The edges curve back. The flowers are 1 cm across and yellow. They occur singly in the axils of leaves. The fruit is fleshy with a hard stone inside. They are 1.5 cm long by 0.9 cm wide. They are green with purple marks.
There are about 90 Persoonia species. They grow in Australia. Many have fruit which are edible.
Where it is found
It grows in subtropical and warm temperate locations. It can be on the edges of rainforest. It needs good drainage and an acid soil. It can tolerate some frost.
