What it is like
A small bush. It grows 1-2 m tall. It branches at the base and new branches are black. The young leaves (and fruit) have white hairs around them. The leaves are simple and leathery. They are 3-6 cm long. The fruit is plump and yellow. It is 4-5 cm across. The pulp is fragrant and slightly sour. The fruit is edible.
There are about 550 Eugenia species. They are mostly in tropical and subtropical South America.
