What it is like
A moderate sized tree. It grows 20 m tall. The leaves are broadly oval. They are 13 cm long by 6 cm wide. Male and female flowers are on separate trees. The fruiting bunches are on the branches below the leaves. The fruit are pear shaped. They are 2.5 cm long by 1 cm wide. They have a woody shell. The flesh is orange-red. It is edible.
There are about 80 Baccaurea species.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in lowland rain forest.
