What it is like
A tree. It loses its leaves during the year. It grows 10-30 m high. The trunk is 75 cm across. The trunk can branch from the base. The bark is grey. The leaves appear with the flowers. The leaves are 8-14 cm long by 3-6 cm wide. The leaves are dark green above and paler underneath. The flowering stalks appear as 1-2 at each side in the axils where the leaves have fallen. There are 1-5 flowers on each. The flower petals are yellow. The fruit are a flattened round shape. They are about 2 cm high and wide. They are yellow, sweet and edible. There is one narrowly oval seed inside.
They have also been put in the family Memecylaceae.
Where it is found
It is a tropical plant. It grows on dry slopes in deciduous forests usually between 20-200 m altitude.
