What it is like
A tree. It grows 30 m tall. The trunk is 80 cm across. The young shoots have sort brown hairs. The leaves are loosely clustered and arranged in spirals. They are 15-23 cm long by 6-9 cm wide. They are broadly sword shaped. Flowers are in groups of 5-10 below the leaves. The flowers are green. The fruit are 9-10 cm across. The are a flattened round shape. They are orange when ripe. There are 2-3 seeds.
There are about 150-320 Pouteria species. They grow in the tropics.
Where it is found
A tropical plant. It grows in non flooded lowland forest in the Amazon.
