What it is like
A tree. It can grow 60 m tall. The trunk has buttresses. These can be 2.5 m tall. The bark is smooth with irregular cracks. The leaves are oval and papery. They are 5-9 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. They are smooth and rounded at the base. They taper to the tip. The flowers are in dense groups 4.5 cm long. The fruit are narrowly oval and 4-5 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. There is a fleshy layer about 1 mm thick.

It is a tropical plant. It grows up to 800 m altitude. It grows in forests on well-drained clay-rich soils.
